Thanksgiving day hunt to remember...
As we set out for our stands in the dark woods of South Berwick, Maine we were hoping to catch a glimpse of "the big one." This is the buck that we got on camera over two months ago. This big 10 pointer had been a complete ghost for the entire hunting season. Although we had not had any sitings of this big 10, we had seen plenty of sign that indicated he was still in the area. It was around 6:40 a.m when i heard a nearby gunshot. When Luke came on the radio and said he thought he had hit a good one, I thought, could it be? And it was, he had shot the big 10. But I didn't have much time to process this great feat. Nearly 15 minutes later, as I sat in my stand with all the excitement built up, I heard a crunch.. crunch.. crunch.. I settled the crosshairs of my Nikon scope in a small opening ahead of where the deer was traveling. As the brown walked into view of my scope, I let the hammer drop. The lost blood trail was of no worry as, Fred Taylor amazingly spotted the buck under a hemlock tree. Luke Taylor's 10 point 165 LB buck and My 8 point 145 LB buck on the ground before 7:00 a.m could not have been planned more perfectly. An unforgettable morning, shared with a great group of friends. Let the great memories we all share continue.- Tanner chase Mike Daniels of Limington,Maine shot this buck the first 20 mins of his NH hunt. 6pt 140lbs Scott Cyr -My first muzzleloader deer ever, taken in the Ashland area 12/1/10 @ 9:55am, 13pts, 196lbs, Aprox 26" spread with a 6" droptine on one side and a 3" droptine on the other. Ralph Doughty - during black powder season, not a bad week for him 2 coyotes and and a buck
Hello fellow Hunters, On December 3rd this year, I was Black Powder hunting off the Quarry road in Wells, when a nice buck gave me a shot. It was slowly passing through a shooting lane at around 100 yards. It was getting dark but still plenty of legal shooting time. After I took the shot, the buck took off and I felt that I had hit him a little far back. After re-loading I walked up the shooting lane with my Nephew and found no sign. Thinking I had less than great hit, and now dark, I opted to back out and go back in the morning. At daylight I returned with my Father-in-law, my Son, and my Nephew, and walked upon my six point buck which I unknowingly hit in the lungs. He had gone around 60 yards and went down. Coyotes however had found him before we did. I tagged it and brought it to Dave Hussey's for processing. He said the coyotes had eaten around 25 lbs of meat. I still received 58 lbs. even after he trimmed out remaining damage. He did a great job for me. I have hit deer in the past and had to go back the following morning to recover with both bow and firearm and never had coyote problems until now. Times have changed. I learned the hard way that you can't leave animals down overnight with those dogs living around us! The picture I've included is the buck laying just as we found him with his whole right quarter eaten, and unseen in the picture, some of the inside of the left quarter and some loins as well. Roland Nadeau MaineHunters.com Note: This deer is a perfect example why "ALL" hunters should take up coyote hunting! It's a major hunting challenge and they need to be thinned out! Need to learn more about Coyote hunting?? Want to share what you know??? Check out MH's website COYOTECROSSHAIRS.com a closed forum chat just for sportsmen! Jon McGrath November 23, 2010 - 14 years old and I got my first deer at Wells, Maine with a Rossi 243. The deer was a 6 point, 160 pound buck.

I passed on some smaller bucks in hope to fill my tag tag with a mature buck but it just wasnt in the cards this season. Muzzle loader season and two doe taggs, I decided the last day if I saw some does, I would try and fill my tags. Well luck was on my side and the last day I had an opportunity to shoot the old smoke pole twice and harvested two does. Hope everyone had a great season !

Ed Hunt –I believe the third week in November is one of the best times to be in the woods, it has been especially good to me. This past November (2010) I was fortunate to take a button buck withmy bow in Cape Elizabeth on Wednesday of the third week of November during the expanded archery season and then 2 days later on Friday of the third week, I harvested a 5 pointer in Limington at 150 yds. with a 243. I returned to my stand in Limington the next morning in hopes of catching a coyote feeding on the paunch and although none showed, it did attract an immature bald eagle of which I had the pleasure of watching for an hour. Jesse Drew- Houlton, Maine area 11 yr. old with her 1st whitetail - Congrats Jesse!
The deer is from Upstate NY and my husband is the one who actually shot it at the very end of the 2010 season. But it was our 6 yr. old son's first time out hunting and the first buck my son ever helped track and field dress. It was pretty exciting.

I passed on some smaller bucks in hope to fill my tag tag with a mature buck but it just wasnt in the cards this season.
